A Michigan high school called a last minute “whiteout” on Friday in memory of a classmate who was tragically killed while walking to school that morning.
As noted by our partners at the Detroit Free Press, 14-year-old Dakota High student Victoria Cartwright was killed when she was struck by a car driven by a fellow student while crossing a road en route to school Friday morning. According to the Free Press, both the driver and her 16-year-old passenger were also en route to the high school when the struck Cartwright.

Shortly after Cartwright’s death was announced to the student body, Dakota students put out a call to make the team’s Friday night game against Utica Eisenhower a white out, with all attendees wearing white.
The Eisenhower student body apparently learned of the white out and joined in as a sign of unity between the two programs in a moment of tragedy.
The result was a rare moment of true unity between rival schools in the state playoffs. While Eisenhower rolled to a 42-7 victory, there’s little question that the true story from the game was all about what was happening in the stands, not on the field.
