HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Kevin Witte, the teacher whose SUV was impaled by a pole as he drove, died shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to Holland Christian Schools Facebook page and superintendent Dan Meester.
Members of the community were invited to Holland Christian High School to help form a prayer circle around the school between 8:30 and 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Witte, 37, was on his way Monday to Holland Christian High School when the accident happened at the corner of 120th and Garden Avenue. The driver of a Parkway Electric truck was hauling a 44-foot pole.
As the truck driver was turning left, the pole swung out into the traffic lane and impaled the windshield of Witte’s SUV.

Witte was a popular teacher at the high school.
“He taught senior Bible, social studies, he also coached boys soccer. So, there’s a lot of layers of involvement at the school.”
“It’s been neat to see how people ban together in times like this and our whole community is blessed by it as well,” Meester said. “We just want to support Kevin’s family though all this as well.”
