LITTLE ELM, Texas – A Little Elm (Texas) High School football player drowned while trying to swim across a cove at Lake Lewisville, police say.
Police said Theoldridge “Theo” Nash, 17, was apparently swimming with three friends when he went under around 8 p.m. and didn’t resurface.
“We’re still investigating the scenario that preceded the tragedy,” Little Elm PD chief Rodney Harrison said in a news release. “Preliminarily, it appears that there were four males, known to each other, who attempted to swim from Little Elm Beach across a cove to the boat ramp.”
A Little Elm police officer saw Nash go under near the boat ramp at Little Elm Park on El Dorado Parkway just before 8 p.m., News 8 learned late Friday.
Emergency crews recovered Nash’s body roughly an hour later. The Lewisville Fire Department’s dive team and Texas Game Wardens used sonar-equipped boats to aid in the recovery.
It was not immediately known what circumstances led to Nash going underwater.
Nash was to be a senior at Little Elm High School. According to the high school football scouting site MaxPreps, he played safety and wide receiver for the Lobos.
